Visiting the Library

  • Monday-Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

We are closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Yes, we offer a variety of programs and events for children, teens, and adults. Visit our events calendar on the library’s website for the latest information on schedules and registration details.

We have one study room, one meeting room, and one auditorium available for public use. All spaces require a reservation. Please inquire at the front desk about availability and our reservation policy.

We have a dedicated quiet room where talking is minimized. The study room, which can be reserved in advance, also provides a quiet environment for focused work.

Yes, we offer tutoring and homework help. Contact our Adult & Teen Librarian at kclark@fossilridge.org or 815-458-2187 ext. 112 to inquire about available services and scheduling.

We strive to accommodate various accessibility needs. Upon request, we can provide assistance and adaptations. We also have a wheelchair, walker, and cane available for use within the library.

Library Cards & Our Collection

To get a library card, bring a utility bill and a government-issued ID with your current address. If you live in an unincorporated area, you may need to pay a fee due to your area’s exclusion from local tax support.

Renew your borrowed items by calling us at 815-458-2187, logging into your library account online (2 days before the due date), or using the Prairiecat app. Some items may not be eligible for renewal.

Physical books do not incur fines if returned late. Overdue fees are only charged for Library of Things items, library kits, and hotspots. $2 daily overdue fee per item. 

Yes, you can reserve or place a hold on items through our online catalog or by phone. Library cardholders from neighboring libraries within our consortium or with reciprocal borrowing agreements can also borrow items.

Access e-books and online resources through the e-resources tab on our website. Log in using your library card’s barcode number. A 4-digit password might be required, which you can set up or retrieve through your account settings.

To suggest a purchase, fill out our recommendation form available on our website. Provide details about the item you recommend to help us consider it for our collection.

Newspapers and magazines are available for reading in the non-fiction area next to the new titles shelf. You can browse through current issues and past editions while at the library.

Computer & Technology Services

We offer 6 public computers for general use. One computer is located in our study room, which requires a reservation. Our free Wi-Fi network is called FOSSIL-WIFI, and no password is needed for access.

Yes, our library provides printing, copying, and scanning services. You can use the self-help station or request assistance from staff if needed.

Printing costs are 10 cents per black-and-white page and 25 cents per color page. Scanning to a flash drive or email is free of charge. Payment for printing and copying can be made at the library. Cash and credit cards are accepted as forms of payment.
