Give Your Child the Gift of Reading
Welcome to the "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program at Fossil Ridge Public Library!
This initiative is designed to help you raise a lifelong reader by encouraging you to read aloud to your child. Reading together is one of the most impactful ways to prepare your child for school and a lifetime of learning.
How the Program Works
The Goal: Read 1,000 books to your child before they start kindergarten. It’s simple, fun, and incredibly beneficial for your child’s development.
Who Can Join: Any child from birth to Pre-K is eligible to participate.
How to Register: Stop by the Youth Services Desk to sign up. You’ll receive a free tote bag, a reading log, and a list of recommended books to get you started.
1. Get Started:
You’ll receive a welcome bag including your first reading log and a list of recommended books to get you started.
2. Log Your Reading:
For every book you read to your child, color in a bubble on the log sheet.
3. Milestones:
Each time you finish 100 books, come in for your next log and a small prize.
4. Achievement:
Once you’ve read 1,000 books, celebrate with an assortment of special prizes!
FAQs
Absolutely! Each time you read a book, whether it’s the same one over and over or different books each time, color in a seed on your log.
Yes! Any book counts, whether your child hears it at storytime, preschool, home, or even in the car. The books don’t have to come from the Fossil Ridge Public Library.
Definitely! If you have more than one child, you can count the same book for each of them.
There is no set list of 1,000 books. Read whatever books your child enjoys! Our staff is happy to help you find great books, and each log sheet comes with a list of recommended titles to get you started.
